Frequent Questions

u

How often should my electrical systems be maintained and what does that look like?

Prevention is easier (and cheaper!) than repair. Ideally, electrical systems should be inspected yearly. This can include circuit breaker tests, GFCI receptacle testing, bulb testing, smoke alarm testing and battery replacement, security camera and alarm system testing, lighting system tests, prevent outdoor electrical boxes for water damage by replacing gaskets and seals for water tightness. Prevention can take as little as 15 minutes and a problem caught early can save a lot of damage and expenses.

Can I change an existing switch to a dimmer?

Absolutely! But it just needs to be replaced with the type of dimmer that correctly work with the light bulbs in your home. Specific bulbs such as incandescent and LED’s require specific types of dimmer switches.

u

Did the bathroom or kitchen outlet suddenly stop working?

Is it a GFCI receptacle? One of those funny looking outlets with buttons in the middle. It could just need a reset. Hit the button and see if power is restored. If not, the next step would be to check the breaker. If the breaker has tripped, simply turn it back on by pushing the handle all the way to the off position until you feel it catch. Then move it to the “ON” position. It’s important to know that breakers can trip and not appear to be tripped. If neither of these get power back to your outlet, then reach out to us and we will diagnose the problem and fix it for you!

How can I lower my electric bill/save energy?

Your electric bill is based on many factors, including how often and how much electricity you use. The simplest way to reduce your bill is to replace your incandescent bulbs with CFL’s and home lighting with LED bulbs. Switch off all appliances, ceiling fans and lighting systems when not in use. Regular maintenance to ensure systems are functioning properly. And to take further steps towards energy efficiency, upgrade you appliances and HVAC equipment to new high-efficiency models.

We offer efficiency testing and can discuss solutions to reduce your energy usage.
